So i was adding a wireless device to my BThub4 and typing in the password i realised that no characters were after f so immediately thinking this hex must be generated someways i delved online and found some material on gnucitizen on a researcher who cracked the generation for the old the old BTHub 1.0 based on the Thomson SpeedTouch 7G and ST790. Although this was WEP encryption to give an idea of how dated this is.

I'm very glad you brought this up. All the wifi hubs in my area are BThomehub 4 or 5. Almost everyone uses the default 10 character hexadecimal key. This is written on the based of the modem. I figured cracking 12^10 by brute force was nearly impossible and the only option would be to physically sneak a glance under the modem to read the key. A shortcut would be a life saver.


I think the last 2 rules are wrong as I have a BTHub4-PX2Q with passkey c6b94dc93 however I'm not sure that is correct as it is only 9 characters long and not 10 and I got it from an app called wifimap. The reason I believe the last time is wrong is that BTHub4-29ZR as seen above has a passkey cfa6d494a8, and has a c d and f . Just my thoughts on the issue because I really need to crack a hub4 passkey. The hub in question is BTHub4-NGRX for anyone Who is interested. Please help if you can!

Though a dedicated smart home hub provides a centralized command center, it doesn't mean the proprietary hubs can be discarded; a dedicated smart home hub won't replace the hubs that come with devices, but it connects them all into a centralized location. Getting rid of proprietary hubs can reduce the device or system's functionality.


One point of contention is that not every smart home network requires a smart home hub. Many smart speakers, including Amazon Echo and Apple HomePod, can fill a dedicated smart home hub's spot and act as the command center of a smart home system, providing hub-like functionality though their companion apps and voice interfaces, for example Alexa or Siri. Dedicated hubs do not offer native voice control options, though integrations are available.

It does, however, offer Alexa skills, which can pair smart home devices with Alexa, offering much of the same control, and users won't experience a difference. And as with dedicated hubs, the Echo Plus requires proprietary hubs to remain in place for full device functionality. For example, Hue devices can connect with an Echo without the Hue Bridge, but functionality of the smart lightbulbs will be limited to on/off and brightness.


Because smart home devices connect to the internet and communicate wirelessly, they are inherently at risk of attack. There have been several notable smart home hub security events in recent history, including:


To prevent security issues within a smart home hub and entire smart home network, it is suggested to use multifactor authentication, change any default usernames or passwords, update software and firmware, and to never share serial numbers, IP addresses or other sensitive network information. The use of antimalware and avoidance of public Wi-Fi are also advised. Segmenting IoT traffic to a guest network is also an option.


Early smart home devices often relied on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to communicate. However, as these specifications can drain battery power quickly, new protocols entered the scene. Zigbee and Z-Wave, two of the most popular protocols in home automation, alleviate power issues and bring low-cost wireless connectivity to smart home devices.


Originally only a hardware device, software smart home hubs have recently become available. Software-based smart home hubs unify the various smart home devices on a smartphone, reducing the need for another box on the shelf. Examples of software-based home automation hubs include Eve and Yonomi.

The original security protocol for Wi-Fi networks was called WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), but it had a number of serious vulnerabilities. Established in 1999, it had been cracked by 2001. It was then superseded by the first version of WPA in 2003, which was replaced by WPA2 in 2006.


As a result, the broadcaster (router) needs to work in a mode that supports the lowest denomination of clients, which is slow. In other words, having these devices in the home might adversely affect the performance of your entire Wi-Fi network.


I have a NetGear Nighthawk R8000 router that I use for home automation (smart switches, smart thermostats, webcams, Google Home, roughly 15 devices). I have separated the 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections with a separate SSID and the automation devices exclusively use the 2.4GHz band.
